CYPRIAN EKWENSI

Cyprian Ekwensi, a Nigerian, who died in 2008 was one of black Africa’s first major prolific writers of fiction. His works straddled many decades, including novels like People of the city, Survive the peace (an excellent work of fiction on the Nigerian Civil War), Iska, The Drummer Boy; among several other novels, novelettes and collections of short stories.
Although Ekwensi’s critics railed against his style of writing, he was a very popular writer in his lifetime by African standards. Jagua Nana was especially famous, later to be followed by a sequel, Jagua Nana’s Daughter.
