LEOPOLD SEDAR SENGHOR


One of Africa’s first celebrated writers and statesman. Known mainly for his poetry which celebrated the essence of being a “Black African”. The Negritude movement is synonymous with Senghor who wrote a string of brilliant creative poetry in the French language.
 During his lifetime he was one of the most respected leaders in Africa (President of Senegal). He was also a mentor of arts and culture for many years hosting and encouraging the likes of Es’kia Mphahlele and Wole Soyinka. His books include Chants d’ombre, Hosties noires. Ethiopiques, Nocturnes, Poemes, Ce que je crois.
