Mention the name, Alan Paton to those familiar with this great South African writer, and his book, Cry the beloved country comes to mind. Indeed, the book was a bestseller and was also made into a powerful movie.
But Paton, who was an anti-apartheid activist, published many other books, including Lost in the Stars (1950), Too late the Phalarope,  The Land and People of South Africa, Debbie Go Home, (1960), Tales from a Troubled Land, Hofmeyr,  South African Tragedy, The Long View, Case History of a Pinky, Knocking on the Door, Towards the Mountain,  Ah, but Your Land is Beautiful, (1981), Save the Beloved Country, (1989)
