AMOS TUTUOLA

Amos Tutuola was heralded as an authentic African writer very much in touch with his African roots and ancestral folklore - which he utilised to great effect in his intriguing works. His famous first novel, The palmwine drinkard was published in 1952, six years before Chinua Achebe made his debut in the literary world. Tutuola had many admirers in the literary world, especially overseas.
His other published works included My life in the bush of ghosts, Simbi and the Satyr of the Dark Jungle (1955), The Brave African Huntress (1958), Feather Woman of the Jungle (1962), Ajaiyi and his Inherited Poverty (1967), Yoruba Folktales (1986), Pauper, Brawler and Slanderer (1987), and The Village Witch Doctor and Other Stories (1990)
