Ngugi wa Thiong’o is easily one of Africa’s most powerful writers. Born in Kenya in 1938 he went on to stun the world with his excellent works of fiction and essays in particular. He is the author of famous works like Weep not child, the River Between, A grain of Wheat, Matigari, Devil on the Cross and latterly The wizard of the Crow.
Ngugi’s essays continue to inspire upcoming generations of African writers; works like Decolonising the mind, Homecoming, Detained, and Barrel of a pen. He has for decades encouraged writing in African languages despite a barrage of criticism. A most versatile writer he has also published plays and books for children.
